Space Domain Awareness Is an Integration Problem

Ask an operator what makes space domain awareness difficult and the answer is rarely “we cannot see enough.” Sensors are not the constraint. The constraint is that the truth arrives in pieces.

Orbital catalogs, conjunction warnings, launch activity, maneuver history, space weather, planetary-defense feeds and lunar terrain all live in different systems. Each one is authoritative on its own. None of them is connected to the picture the operator actually has to act on. So the work becomes reconciliation, and operators end up fighting the data instead of the mission.

Three horizons, at the same time

DEEPSIGHT was built around that problem. It maintains a living model of the domain and works across three time horizons simultaneously: a tactical horizon of live propagation and alerting, an operational horizon of screening, reentry and drag, and a strategic horizon of population, risk and behavior.

Those horizons are usually separate tools owned by separate teams. Holding them in one model is what turns a catalog into a decision. It is the difference between knowing where an object is and knowing whether it matters.

What it actually covers

Full-catalog propagation and 3D visualization. Conjunction screening with probability-of-collision analysis and risk triage. Anomaly detection from orbital-element regression, maneuver screening, and pattern-of-life and orbital-intent assessment. Space-object characterization and cross-catalog analysis of uncorrelated objects. Enrichment of two-line element sets into higher-fidelity state estimates, to improve both conjunction accuracy and covariance realism.

More than 34,000 objects are on orbit. DEEPSIGHT holds over 30,000 of them live on a single canvas — alongside custody and navigation research beyond GEO, where publicly releasable.

Lineage

DEEPSIGHT descends from Deep Sight, a space domain awareness platform built and scaled from a Defense Innovation Unit accelerator prototype into a deployed production system supporting U.S. Air Force and U.S. Space Force space-situational-awareness mission sets.

That history matters for one reason: the design assumptions came from operators under real time pressure, not from a whiteboard.
